Description
The law requires all licensed premises that sell alcohol to have a formal Age verification Policy. This document meets all of the statutory requirements for a policy.
Each premises licence has a mandatory condition attached to it that states: “The premises licence holder shall ensure that an age verification policy applies to the premises in relation to the sale or supply of alcohol. The policy must require individuals who appear to the responsible person to be under 18 years of age (or such older age as may be specified in the policy) to produce on request, before being served alcohol, identification bearing their photograph, date of birth, and a holographic mark”.
Failure to have an Age Verification Policy in place would mean that you risk a fine of up to £20,000 and/or 6 months imprisonment.
As a responsible retailer of alcohol, you will exercise all reasonable precautions and exercise all due diligence to avoid commission of an offence. Your Age Verification Policy is best used alongside some of the other essential tools on our website, which will ensure that minors are aware that they will be challenged for ID.
